Turbo Boost Leak Smoke Test in Slough
If your turbocharged car has dropped into limp mode around Slough, lost mid-range pull, or started whistling under boost, you almost certainly have a boost leak somewhere in the charge-air system. Signs your car has a boost leak
- Limp mode under acceleration. the ECU sees a target boost it cannot reach and protects the engine. Classic boost leak symptom
- Whistle, hiss or chuff under load. air escaping where it should not. Often louder with the bonnet open and revs held
- P0299 underboost or P0234 overboost fault code. the two most common codes we read on Slough turbo cars
- Lost mid-range pull but fine at idle. the leak only matters when the turbo is actually trying to make pressure
- Heavy soot from a diesel exhaust. uneven fuelling because the MAF sees less air than the engine is actually getting

How the smoke test works at our Slough workshop
We plug a smoke generator into the intake after the air filter and seal the system. Low-pressure smoke fills the entire charge-air path: turbo inlet, compressor outlet, intercooler, hard pipes, throttle body and intake manifold. With the engine off and the bonnet open, any leak shows as smoke escaping in real time, and we photograph it so you can see exactly what we found.
Within 30 minutes we usually have the leak located. We then quote the fix honestly, whether it is a a fair amount clamp, a a fair amount silicone replacement hose, a a fair amount OEM pipe or a a fair amount intercooler. No invented faults, no shotgun parts swaps.
Common leak points by vehicle family
- BMW N54, N55, B58 charge pipe. OEM plastic charge pipes crack between the turbo and intercooler. We see this every fortnight on Slough cars
- VAG 2.0 TFSI and 2.0 TSI PCV diaphragm. the valve cover PCV diaphragm splits and dumps boost. Quick test, common fix
