R1234yf Aircon Re-gas. Slough and Berkshire
If your car was first registered from 2017 onwards, it almost certainly takes R1234yf refrigerant, not the older R134a. The two gases are not interchangeable, the service ports are physically different sizes, and you need a dedicated R1234yf machine. Plenty of garages around Slough still do not have one. We do, and we re-gas R1234yf systems every day at our Berkshire workshop.
R1234yf is also significantly more expensive per kilo than R134a, which is why some places quietly try to charge an R134a system with the wrong gas. We never mix the two. Your car gets exactly what the manufacturer specified, charged to the gram, with a proper vacuum and leak test first.

- Most plug-in hybrids and EVs. R1234yf is mandatory. Electric compressor needs specialist insulated tools
What is different about an R1234yf re-gas
R1234yf is mildly flammable and the EU regulations around handling it are tighter. Our machine has an integrated refrigerant identifier that checks the gas already in the system before we touch it. If a previous garage has cross-contaminated your system with R134a, we will catch it and quote the recovery and flush separately before re-gassing.
Recovery, vacuum, hold test, charge to manufacturer weight, vent temperature check, system function test. Same disciplined process as the R134a job, but with the right machine and the right gas. You get a printed report with starting charge, ending charge and vent temperatures.
EVs, hybrids and electric A/C compressors
Modern EVs and plug-in hybrids use an electric A/C compressor that doubles as the cabin heat pump on cars like the Tesla Model 3, Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5. These compressors need a special POE oil, never PAG oil. Putting PAG oil into an EV compressor wrecks it. We use the correct oil every time at our Slough workshop.
If your EV cabin heating has weakened over winter, that is almost always a refrigerant charge issue with the heat pump system, not just an aircon problem. We can diagnose properly with our R1234yf station before recommending parts.
