BMW N47 / N57 Diesel Tuning. Done Properly in Slough
If you drive a BMW diesel in Slough or anywhere across Berkshire, the chances are it's running an N47 (2.0d) or N57 (3.0d) under the bonnet, and both respond brilliantly to a properly written map. The N47 lives in everything from the F20 120d to the F10 520d. The N57 single turbo and the N57S twin turbo cover the 330d, 530d, X3 30d, X5 30d, X6 30d and the F36 430d. Tuned right, these engines wake up dramatically without leaning on the turbos.
We map BMW diesels every week. The team at Onyx Autocentre know the engines, the gearboxes (especially ZF 8HP), the chain wear stories and where the limits actually are. We won't sell you a Stage 2 file on a car that needs a timing chain first.
Real gains we see on BMW N47 and N57 in Slough
- F30 320d (N47D20) 184bhp. to roughly 225-240bhp and 470-510Nm. Punchy mid-range, much stronger overtake.
- F10 520d (N47D20) 184bhp. similar. 230bhp and 500Nm typical. The car finally has the legs to match its weight.
- F30 / F31 330d (N57D30 single turbo) 258bhp. to 320-340bhp, torque to around 680Nm.
- F10 / F11 530d (N57D30) 258bhp. the same engine, the same numbers. A genuinely quick saloon afterwards.
- E70 / F15 X5 30d. 245-258bhp depending on year to around 305-325bhp. Tow rating unchanged.
- F36 430d (N57D30 single turbo). stock 258bhp to around 320-330bhp. Best balance of the range to drive.
- E71 X6 M50d / F15 X5 M50d (N57S triple turbo). 381bhp to around 450bhp with all three turbos still doing their job. Specialist work, dyno mandatory.
What stays where it should
EGR stays plumbed and active. DPF stays fitted and functioning. AdBlue stays in the loop where applicable. None of that is optional on a UK road car. We tune the fuelling and the boost intelligently around the existing emissions hardware. The map respects it. The car still passes MOT, still passes emissions, still has its full smog kit. That is the proper way to remap a UK BMW diesel.
We also offer a separate EGR cleaning service for tired BMW diesels (the N57 EGR cooler is a known soot trap). Often worth doing before a remap so the new map sees a clean intake side.
Before we tune your BMW diesel
- Chain check. N47 timing chain wear is real. We listen, scope and check before any map goes on. We will not remap a car with a stretched chain.
- Swirl flap inspection. early N57 swirl flap actuators have a track record. Worth checking on higher-mileage cars before adding torque.
- ZF 8HP transmission check. the box loves more torque, but only if its fluid is in date. We can service the ZF the same week.
- Diagnostic scan. any stored DTCs investigated and resolved before mapping. No new map covering up an old fault.
