Ford 3.2 TDCi Remap. More Torque for Towing in Slough
The Ford 3.2 TDCi five-cylinder, fitted to the Ranger Mk3 and Mk4 and the rear-wheel-drive Transit Mk7 and Mk8, is a brilliant engine straight from the factory. It also has serious headroom for a sensible remap. Slough customers towing horseboxes out to Berkshire showgrounds, builders pulling laden trailers down the M4, fleet operators running Rangers seven days a week, they all benefit from the same thing: more usable low-down torque, smoother gear changes, less downshifting on every motorway gradient.

Why owners come to us for the 3.2
Stock, the 3.2 TDCi has a soft mid-range and a slightly lazy throttle map. Remapped, the bottom of the rev range hauls properly, the throttle responds linearly, and the box stays in higher gears for longer. Caravan owners notice it most on inclines, builders notice it on a fully-laden trailer pull-away, fleet drivers notice it on motorway overtakes that used to need a downshift.
Real-world MPG on a remapped 3.2 typically improves 2-5 MPG on long runs because you stop chasing the throttle. Drive it harder, and yes, you'll use the fuel. That part hasn't changed.
What we keep on the truck
DPF stays. EGR stays. AdBlue stays where it's fitted. The Ranger and Transit 3.2 TDCi have a workable emissions setup and there's no need to interfere with it for a sensible Stage 1 map. We tune around them, not through them. The team at Onyx Autocentre won't strip emissions kit off a UK road vehicle. End of conversation.
Tow rating, warranty and what to think about
The Ranger and Transit 3.2 are both rated to over 3500kg towing. Our map doesn't change that mechanically and we always recommend you stay within the plated weights. If your truck is on a manufacturer warranty, talk to us first about timing, especially on later Rangers with the Ford TCU that can flag a remap. Out of warranty, no issue.
Auto box on the later Ranger? It loves the extra torque. We can write a TCU file alongside the engine map if you want firmer, faster shifts, but it's optional. Stock TCU handles Stage 1 fine.
