VW & Audi TDI Remap. Slough to Berkshire
Slough is full of VW and Audi diesels, and the team at Onyx Autocentre map them every week. From the older PD TDI engines through to the current CR TDI common rail units, and even the twin-turbo BiTDI in the A6 and A7, the VAG diesel range responds beautifully to a properly written map. The trick is knowing which engine you have, what its limits actually are, and writing the file for your exact gearbox and modifications, not pulling a generic file off a USB stick.
PD or CR, single turbo or twin, manual or DSG. We map them all on our in-house dyno across Berkshire and we keep the original file safe in case you ever need to flash back.
PD TDI vs CR TDI. The short version
PD (Pumpe Düse) TDI engines (codes like BKD 140, BMM 140, BKP 170, BMN 170) ran from roughly 2003 to 2010 and use unit injectors driven off the camshaft. Loud, characterful, easy to map. Stage 1 typically takes the 140 to around 175bhp and the 170 to around 210bhp.
CR TDI common rail (codes like CFFB 140, CFGB 170, CFHC 170, CAGA 143, CAHA 240, CMGB 184) replaced PD from 2008-ish onwards. Quieter, more refined, slightly more headroom. Stage 1 on a CAGA 143 typically gets you 195-205bhp and around 420Nm. A twin-turbo CAHA 240 in an A6 BiTDI runs nicely to 290-300bhp and over 600Nm.

- VW Golf MK5 / MK6 1.9 / 2.0 TDI (BKC, BKD, CBDB). modest but useful gains, ideal first remap on an older diesel.
- VW Golf MK7 2.0 TDI (CRMB, CRLB). 150bhp stock to around 190bhp and 380Nm. Strong drivetrain, holds the torque well.
- Audi A3 8P 2.0 TDI 170 (BMN). PD engine, to around 210bhp and 440Nm. Big-feeling jump on a small car.
- Audi A4 B8 2.0 TDI 143 (CAGA). the workhorse. To roughly 200bhp and 420Nm. Transforms motorway driving.
- Audi A6 C7 3.0 BiTDI (CGQB). 313bhp twin turbo. Stage 1 to around 360-380bhp, torque to 720Nm+. Genuinely fast.
- VW Passat / Skoda Superb 2.0 TDI 190 (DDAA, DFGA). to roughly 230bhp and 470Nm. Excellent long-distance car afterwards.
- Skoda Octavia vRS TDI. 184bhp to around 220-230bhp. Reliable, fun, holds its value.
DSG and S tronic. Why the TCU matters
On Stage 1 torque increases, the standard DSG / S tronic TCU map will often soft-limit torque back down to protect itself. We can write a matching TCU file alongside the engine map so the gearbox actually delivers what the engine is making. Faster shifts, raised torque limits within safe clutch capacity, full launch control unlocked where applicable. We do this same-day in Slough. Manual cars don't need it, but you do want to think about the clutch on high-torque CR TDI saloons.
What we keep healthy
EGR stays plumbed. DPF stays fitted and regenerating properly. AdBlue stays alive on the newer engines. We tune around the emissions hardware, not by ripping it off. If your EGR is gummed up before we map it, we offer an in-situ EGR clean as a separate job, which makes a real difference on tired CR TDI engines that haven't seen long journeys for a while.
