Proper Diamond Cut Alloy Refurbishment in Slough

Diamond cut wheels are the ones with that bright machined silver face and a coloured pocket behind each spoke. BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Range Rover and Jaguar fit them as a premium option and they look brilliant, until the lacquer cracks, water gets in and the face turns milky white. We refurbish them properly at our Slough workshop on a wheel-specific CNC lathe, not by polishing them up and praying the lacquer holds.

A proper diamond cut refurb means stripping the wheel, repairing any kerb damage, repainting the pocket colour, then putting the wheel on the lathe and taking a fresh skim off the face so the machined finish is brand new. Then fresh lacquer, baked, balanced and refitted. That is the only way it lasts. Berkshire drivers who try the cheap mobile option usually end up back at us within 18 months.

Why diamond cut wheels fail so quickly

The lacquer layer on a diamond cut wheel sits directly on bare machined aluminium. Any tiny chip or kerb scuff lets moisture under the lacquer, and once that starts, corrosion creeps sideways and lifts the lacquer off in patches. You get the milky cloudy look across the spokes. Once it starts you cannot polish it out, you have to recut the face.

  • Kerb damage. even small scuffs break the lacquer seal and let water in.
  • Winter salt. M4 and M25 runs into Slough in January are brutal on uncoated edges.
  • Cheap tyre fitters. wheel weights and tyre levers chip lacquer at the rim. We use protected machines.
  • Steam cleaners. hot pressure washing forces moisture through hairline lacquer cracks.

  • Strip. tyre off, old lacquer and paint chemically and thermally stripped back to bare alloy.
  • Repair. kerb damage filled and shaped, cracks TIG welded where needed before machining.
  • Pocket colour. matched to your OE shade (gloss black, anthracite, shadow chrome, satin grey) and baked.
  • Diamond cut. wheel mounted on the CNC lathe, fresh skim off the face, OE machining pattern restored.
  • Lacquer. two coats of UV stable lacquer, oven baked, not air dried.
  • Refit. tyres back on, balanced, valves checked, torqued to spec, ready to drive.

How many times can a wheel be diamond cut?

Roughly two to three times in its life. Every cut takes a small amount of metal off the face, so eventually the spoke profile loses definition. We measure before we cut and tell you honestly if a wheel has had enough. If it has, a full colour change refurbishment (painted instead of machined) is a better call and we will quote that instead.

How does drop-off work?+

Yes. We remove and refit TPMS valves carefully, replace seals as standard, and reset the system before you drive away.
