Change the Colour of Your Whole Alloy Set in Slough
Changing the colour of your wheels is the single biggest visual upgrade you can make to a car for under a grand, and we do full-set colour changes from our Slough workshop every week. Whether you want gloss black on a Golf R, satin anthracite on an Audi RS4, bronze on a Focus ST, or matte grey on a Range Rover Sport, the process and the finish quality is the same. Strip, prep, prime, colour, lacquer, bake. Berkshire drivers know the difference between a proper refurb and a driveway respray.
We use both wet paint and powder coat depending on the colour and the wheel. Powder coat is harder wearing and best for plain colours and satin finishes. Wet paint is better for metallics, candies and OE-match colours where we need exact spectrophotometer matching. We will tell you straight which one suits your wheels and what the trade-offs are. If your wheels are diamond-cut from the factory, switching to a full painted finish keeps the colour change far easier to maintain long-term.
What we do on a full set colour change
- Tyres off. all four wheels, valves removed, kept and matched to wheels.
- Chemical strip. old paint and lacquer fully stripped, not just sanded over. The whole rim including the back of the spokes.
- Damage repair. any kerb damage, scuffs, corrosion pitting filled and shaped before primer.
- Etch primer. bonded to bare aluminium, oven cured.
- Colour. powder coat or two-pack paint, your choice of finish, baked at full temperature.
- Lacquer. high-build UV stable lacquer, baked. (Powder coat finishes get a single layer flow coat instead.)
- Refit. new valves, tyres remounted, balanced, TPMS reset, torqued, back on the car.

Powder coat or paint, which is right for you?
Powder coat is essentially a plastic finish bonded to the wheel under heat. It is harder than paint, more chip resistant and brilliant for satin and matte finishes. The downside is colour matching is less precise and it cannot do true metallic flake. Paint is a wet two-pack automotive system, same as bodywork. It does any colour to any shade, including OE match, candy, pearl and metallic. Slightly less impact resistant than powder coat but much easier to repair if you do kerb it later. For most Slough customers wanting black, satin or anthracite we recommend powder coat. For OE-match or metallic shades, wet paint.
What it does not include
We do not do colour change on a damaged or cracked wheel without repair first. If the wheel needs welding or straightening, that is added to the quote and explained up front. We also do not strip OE diamond cut wheels and refinish them in solid colour without checking with you, because once it is done it cannot be reversed back to the original machined face cheaply.
