Range Rover alloys are heavy, big diameter and almost always diamond-cut from the factory - which means when they go, they go visibly. Sport and Velar 21s and 22s are the most common in, usually with the silver face gone milky round the outer rim where water's crept under the lacquer. Evoque 20s come in the same way. Full-size Range Rover 22s and 23s are the biggest jobs we take on regularly.
Our lathe handles up to 24 inches comfortably - most refurb shops top out at 22, which means anything bigger gets sent elsewhere or fobbed off. We do them in-house.
What we see most on Range Rovers
Lacquer peel on diamond-cut faces is the number-one issue, especially on cars that live outside. The fix is a proper strip, re-cut on the lathe and re-lacquer - not a paint touch-up, which never lasts on a machined finish. Kerb damage on the outer lip from tight London car parks is the second most common, and on the bigger 22s we get the odd cracked rim from pothole hits, which we TIG weld and re-profile before refurbing.
Colour change on Sport and Velar
Plenty of Range Rover owners come in wanting a full colour change - gloss black or satin dark grey is the usual ask on a Sport or Velar. That's a powder coat job, full strip back to bare metal, and it holds up to the weight and the British weather a lot better than wet spray.
